Encrypt Your Files
Encryption is an important aspect of keeping your digital life safely yours. It allows us to use cloud storage providers as a backup or sync point for our different devices without worry.
A good encryption solution only decrypts data to memory when it is actively being used, and encrypts the data when saving it from system memory to disk or cloud storage.
Password Management
For password management that is open-source, self-hosted, and cross-platform, use KeePassXC. It stores your vault as an encrypted local file, so you own your data entirely.
Encrypted File Storage
Cryptomator is an excellent project for encrypting files before they land in cloud storage. It creates an encrypted virtual drive — you work with files normally, and Cryptomator handles encrypting them transparently before syncing.
Both tools are free, open-source, and actively maintained.
